Due to the current outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid-19), and the Government’s advice to the public to avoid attending theatres, and other social and cultural events and locations, it will come as no surprise that Beckenham Theatre has had to take the difficult decision to close for the foreseeable future with all productions, performances and other activities, including our weekly children’s and youth theatre workshops, suspended with immediate effect.
As a consequence, our production of The Heiress has now been cancelled, as has the Bromley Theatre Guild Drama Festival, in which it was our entry. The Kent Drama Festival, where we had high hopes for our February production, In His Wake, which had already received its adjudication, has also been cancelled and no further performances will take place.
We understand this will be disappointing news for anyone who has already booked tickets to see The Heiress, as well as those performing in it and working behind the scenes, but the safety and security of our members and our audiences is our priority.
Given the amount of hard work that has already gone into the production, we hope to be able to reschedule it for performance later in the year. In the meantime, we will arrange refunds to all ticket holders who have already booked either via the box office, or Eventbrite, as appropriate.
We had also started rehearsals for our children’s theatre production of Our Day Out. These will now stop and the show, which was due to be performed at the end of May, has also been cancelled for now. Auditions for Foxfinder, our July production, which were scheduled for later this month will no longer happen either. As with The Heiress, we hope to be able to rearrange performance dates for both shows, so please check our website regularly at www.beckenhamtheatre.com for further updates and information regarding our future plans. There is also a dedicated children’s and youth theatre page where you can find updates regarding any reopening plans and for the children’s theatre summer workshop, currently scheduled for early August, should we be able to go ahead with it this year. We will, of course, also endeavour to keep you up to date via social media – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – and through our regular newsletters and announcements emailed to all our membership.
If you have any queries regarding the theatre during this distressing time, please write to us at email@example.com or contact us via our Facebook page or the website. You can also sign up to the newsletter here: http://beckenhamtheatre.com/contact/.
In the meantime, please stay safe and well and we hope to be back with you, and you with us, as soon as possible.
