Due both to the pandemic and the theatre’s current predicament regarding asbestos, Beckenham Theatre’s 2021 season has now been cancelled and there will be no productions at the theatre this year. If the ongoing rollout of vaccinations and the lifting of current lockdown restrictions means that social distancing rules can be relaxed later this year then consideration will be given to doing a production at Christmas, possibly our proposed production of Panto Pandemonium postponed from the 2020 season, but only if it is safe to do so and there is appetite amongst our actors and technicians to return to performances and our audiences to return to auditoriums to watch shows again. The trustees will make decisions, in this respect, later in the year. If we do mount any performances in 2021, or beyond for the foreseeable future, these will need to take place at other venues which we will try to locate as locally as possible.
In the meantime, the trustees have decided that, in line with other theatre groups in Bromley, we will not be asking anyone for membership fees this year and, if you are a current member, your membership will rollover into 2022 when, hopefully, we’ll have a clearer idea of both the theatre’s immediate future and if and when theatres across the country can reopen again safely.
More details regarding this decision will be posted on the website shortly and Karen Peters-Parker, our membership secretary, will be sending a letter to all members to explain this decision further in the near future.
