Missing out on their 2020 fix of festive fun, a group of BTC’s pantomime regulars have got together to create a new production on Zoom which should be ready for release this summer – full details will be released on the website once the team make them available.
Checkmate is a brand new one-act play written especially for performance on Zoom by Chris Raven – probably best known as our pantomime dame in 2018 and 2019 – and is a light-hearted look at love in later life and how the eternal triangle can get a bit complicated when you are in your 70’s. Chris will also direct the project.
The script is now written and is currently being edited. Casting is also underway and, although most characters will be played by some of our familiar panto actors from recent years, if there are any roles that can’t be cast then Cathy Diver, who is leading the team, will be holding auditions for these in the near future which we will advertise on the website and our Facebook page.
Checkmate is a great initiative from a group of the theatre’s actors who are often taken for granted as they give up every Christmas to keep us entertained in the winter months so when Checkmate hits your computer screen this summer, do give them your support and help keep the limelights burning in what has been the bleakest of years for theatres and the performing arts everywhere.
The team will be holding a readthrough of the current draft of the play on Sunday, 28th February 2021 at 2 pm. Auditions for any roles that still need to be cast will be held soon after so, if you would like to be involved in the reading or be considered for auditions, please get in touch with Cathy Diver at firstname.lastname@example.org before the 28th February and she will allocate you a role and send you a script and Zoom login detail.
