A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare

Please note the change of venue – this production will now be performed in Church House Gardens, behind the Churchill Theatre off Bromley High Street

2020 was a very difficult year for local theatre, and performance in general, as a consequence of the restrictions put in place to manage the Covid-19 pandemic.  These restrictions look set to impinge upon all local performance (certainly indoors) for most of 2021.  An outdoor performance seemed the only option.

Bromley Community Arts Theatre (BCAT) was formed by Pauline Armour, Simon Clark, David Evans and Debbie Griffiths to bring people together, from many different societies and organisations, to bring live performance back to the borough.

William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream has now been given the BCAT treatment.  This exciting open-air production breathes new life into one of the world’s best-loved comedies and brings together talent from all across the borough.

On a Midsummer’s night, four young lovers find themselves wrapped in the dream-like arms of an enchanted forest where evil sprites lurk and sinister fairies rule.  While a feuding Fairy King and Queen are at war with each other, their paths are crossed by Bottom, Quince and their merry band of actors presenting a play within a play.  The meddling, menacing Puck is on-hand to ensure that the course of true love is anything but smooth, and games of fantasy, love and dreams ensue in Shakespeare’s most beguiling comedy.

Bromley Community Arts Theatre (BCAT) are delighted to bring an open-air production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to our beautiful Borough.  Staged in the amphitheatre of Church House Gardens (behind the Churchill Theatre, Bromley High Street), this looks set to be a remarkable rendering of Shakespeare’s timeless comedy masterpiece.  You are invited to picnic an hour before the show begins (from 6.30pm) where a cash-only bar will be available for you to choose from a good quality range of wine and refreshments to accompany your picnic.  Remember to bring a chair, cushion or blanket to make yourself comfortable throughout the production as seating will not be provided in the venue.  We look forward to welcoming you into our enchanted wood to enjoy great talent from across the Borough.
