FOXFINDER

By Dawn King

Directed by Lorraine Spenceley

Dates: Monday, 4th – Saturday, 9th April 2022

A darkly comic, spell-binding dystopian drama, Dawn King’s Foxfinder won the 2011 Papatango New Writing Prize and premiered at the Finborough Theatre, London. It had its West End premiere at the Ambassadors Theatre in 2018.

England is in crisis. Fields are flooded, food is scarce and fear grips the land. William Bloor, a foxfinder, arrives at Judith and Samuel Covey’s farm to investigate a suspected fox infestation. The Coveys’ harvest has failed to meet its target and the government wants to know why.

Trained from childhood, William is fixated on his mission to unearth the animals that must be to blame for the Coveys’ woes. But as the hunt progresses, William finds more questions than answers…

Foxfinder is a parable for the irrational search for scapegoats to explain the ills that haunt mankind. Power in the wrong hands destroys, abuses, and corrupts.

Lorraine Spenceley, who’s production of Brandy about Queen Anne has been performed at Beckenham Theatre twice in recent years, was originally scheduled to direct Foxfinder at Beckenham Theatre in our 2020 season but the pandemic prevented it from happening. Unfortunately, the closure and sale of the theatre in September last year stopped it from being rescheduled for performance at BTC so Lorraine has taken the play to our friends at Theatre 62 and is performing it next month.
